Breaking New Year’s resolutions

In which I already start breaking my New Year’s resolutions.

It’s the first week of January which means it is the traditional time to break all the resolutions that were set a few days ago. Already I’m doing less exercise and treating vegetables as the enemy.

I’m trying to recall actually making a proper resolution to keep, one of the big “I am going to change my life” resolutions like finding love or learning Klingon. Or even something as absurd as taking up running and eating humus. However I can’t recall making a single one of these promises.

I am always confused as to why people determine that they will change their lives based upon the arbitrary date chosen to start a new calendar. Continue reading “Breaking New Year’s resolutions”

2016 Goals (not resolutions)

In which I set out my aims for the following year.

After being moderately successful with my goals for 2015, I thought I should try again this year. Again these are goals and not resolutions because there is no initial promise I will keep (or even attempt) them.

Last year was all about moving on with life so this year I’m going for the S version and just consolidating on last year’s design. As normal I do have a backlog of goals, which are from 2013, so I should start with them.

2015 End of Year Review

In which i decide last year wasn’t that bad.

As the final hours of 2015 tick away it’s a good time to think about what I’ve done this year. I always feel bad about reviews because I am certain I didn’t do enough when in fact I have a list of achievements I forgot about due to the amount I had actually done.

I’ve found this out at work after being complimented on just how much work I had completed in just a few months, I had forgotten most of it because I was too busy to reflect backwards. So with 2015 almost over it’s time to asses how I did against the goals I set myself on January 1st.

2015 Goals (not resolutions)

In which I prepare for my 35th year.

Despite my New Year Humbuggery I do like to have a set of vague goals for the upcoming months. I call them goals because this makes it hurt less when I fail to meet one, naming them resolutions just dares me to break them.

So my goals for 2015 are to try and move life on a bit, I’ve had a good few years laying down the foundations for a good life (getting married, fathering, house buying etc) and now feel as though this is the year to kick on a bit. With that in mind I have my backlog from 2014 and some new aspirations.

2014 End of Year Review

In which I look back on my 34th year.

That’s it then, another year over and what have I done? In one sense it was not as crazy as the previous few years but it has still gone by in a bit of a daze. I managed to get away without any life changing event for the first time since 2009 so it has given me some time to take stock and live life a little.

The best thing for me to do is take a look back at the resolutions I made all that time ago whilst in the middle of a baby-sleep-deprived state and see where I went wrong. After the Red-Posting a lot of what I had written has gone but I managed to find a copy of the post I made where I plotted out my new year resolutions…and looking at the first one I may be on to a loser here!
