About Me

Ah, so you worked out the riddle. You just needed to use dwarfish and the doors to Geek Ergo Sum opened. Or perhaps you just used Google. Either way you are here, on my little corner of the Internet.

As part of the welcome I suppose it’s about time I did the ‘about me’ bit. This is tricky because, unlike those who have a really flexible spine, I don’t like to blow my own horn. Under normal circumstances I would surreptitiously get others to give me bits and pieces to fill in this section, after all my own self-image varies considerably from that of my observers.

As way of a basic introduction let’s do some facts.

  • I’m 36 years old
  • Male
  • Short
  • A geek

Well that was easy, what next? A brief potted history of my life? Born, went to schools, went to Uni, halls burnt down, left after a year, worked in banks, went back to uni, left after 4 months, worked as an MI then Data then Marketing then Database analyst for various companies.

  • I’ve nearly died once.
  • I’ve been fired, sorry ‘made redundant’ once.
  • My heroes are scientists.
  • I like melodies.
  • I like sports.

I am somewhat a geek. Not the pocket calculator/World of Warcraft/Know every single line of Star Trek geek. I’m one of the good geeks, the kind who do know perhaps too much about the inner workings of a computer but also do other things, like socialise.

In fact, a bit like Leonard from The Big Bang Theory…with a little bit of Sheldon and throw in some Raj-like awkwardness around women as well. (I realise for anyone who has not watched this series I am talking absolute twaddle now)

This is my little spot on the Internet. A place for me to talk about the things that interest and excite, and bug me, about modern life. This blog is only possible because another one died. Like the Sun it started to synthesise elements that would lead to its destruction.

Geek Ergo Sum is made of blogdust.

I intend this site to be a bit less miserable and a bit more Reithian. To educate, inform and (hopefully) entertain. As with my last attempt I have an idea of what this site will be like. Like my last attempt this will probably change. Part of the change is purely cosmetic and a name change, but names are powerful things and I felt that this was the most important change to make.

So welcome to Geek Ergo Sum. For those of you not familiar with the philosophy of Descartes then it is a corruption of “I think, therefore I am”. I am a geek, and it goes define me. I like science, I am excited by technology , I have good knowledge of things that interest me in a way that others could describe as unhealthy.

I am not ashamed, this is who I am. This site is primarily a journal. An online diary for me to record my thoughts. It is a notebook and sketch pad for me to be creative with. Lastly it is for others to read. I will try to not be so depressive, but I will not promise.

So, that’s enough exposition I think. Pull up a pew. Come into my world.

I geek, therefore I am.

  1. Love it! You could just go ahead and do a photo mash of Leonard/Sheldon/Ray but that could be a little to Jurassic Park on us all. Don’t do it just because you can. Think of the many unsuspecting souls that might be terrified out of their respective lives! Great intro.

  2. I LOVE BIG BANG THEORY! I just wish the show had some more women on it. Also, I love your picture under the “Geek Ergo Sum” title. I love Doctor Who and I love the 11th Doctor more.

  3. As far as I’m concerned your u could’ve just stopped at “You just needed to use dwarfish and the doors to Geek Ergo Sum opened” Just say “Friend”, and enter!
I like the way you describe yourself as a geek as being someone who knows how to socialize too. I think I’ll borrow that!

  4. You sound wonderful! And I *still* haven’t watched “Big Bang Theory,” although many people have urged me to do so. Since I don’t own a T.V. (on purpose), I miss some good things. Will remedy that soon.
    I enjoyed your “About” page.

  5. This is terrific. I feel that I am somewhat on your level as a geek. Not quite antisocial, but understand what goes on behind the curtain. In some cases I can quote star trek though. I grew up with a lot of star trek. But I am excited to read more of your site. I love the layout of your site.
