It is hard to categorise this site sometimes, it’s partly the reason I am half way through retagging and recategorising everything on here. The noise it makes it not harmonious and is often discordant.
You would expect a piece such as Geek Ergo Sum to have a theme, an underlying harmony, but instead it seems to be a random collection of hits. And by hits it is more like the discarded B-Sides from pieces that never made the Top 40.
To try and make sense it is worth comparing Geek Ergo Sum to it’s influences. Once you see the music that has inspired some of the posts you can get a deeper understanding of where the writing is coming from.
The Beatles – Tomorrow Never Knows
Just like this track a lot of the posts on this site are strange mind fart that seem to make no sense, but has a nice little beat underneath all the random lyrics.
Meat Loaf – I would do anything for Love (but I won’t do that).
Often the posts seem repetitive and go on way too long. You know it was about ‘that’ thing, and that ‘that’ must be good (or possibly bad), but you can’t put your finger on what that ‘that’ was (even though it was actually answered). Also this may be the inspiration for the overuse of the bracket.
The Kingsmen – Louis Louis
There is a short and wild pace to a lot of the posts, and this can been seen as a reflection of this song by The Kingsmen. Shouty, loud and often incoherent.
The Beatles – Yesterday
You could argue that like this ‘masterpiece’ from McCartney a lot of what appears here magically arrived in a dream. I think it is more of a reflection that just as Yesterday is one of the most covered songs, there is an awful lot of repetition (Mrs G: Reposting) on this site.
Write about the subject you usually blog about as if you were a music critic.
