Motivating my wife

In which I try to get Mrs G going.

Vintage style typewriter for writing

I used this blog as a threat last night. Granted that is like standing in front of 300 Spartans with a stick of rhubarb and accusing them of looking a bit small in their speedos, if I was going to threaten someone with this blog the only way to make it menacing is to use the computer I write as a cudgel.

Thankfully I wasn’t going to use it in a violent way, I am a man of peace and a leaf on the wind. It was an attempt to get someone to write. She knows who she is…it’s Mrs G so now you know as well (I don’t believe in keeping secrets). She would like to be a writer, and I would like that as well. At last count JK Rowling was worth a billion dollars and that’s nothing to sniff at. She spends a lot of time tapping away at a keyboard but as I had to get up in the morning and go to work the New York Times bestseller list has yet to be threatened

She must write a few thousand words a day between emails, role plays, journals and all the other writing she has. The only problem is she keeps it hidden, keeps it safe like a ring of power. There is very little of her work in front of the public domain (with the exception of posts on her blog and fanfiction.net). I feel I’m reasonably prolific, over 360 posts and quite happy to publish anything.

So this blog is also a bit of motivation for her, if I write so much and attract the attention of a publisher (I’m only joking!) that I get to stay at home while Geek Ergo Sum The Movie (starring Will Arnett, Jojo and Ethan Hawke) then it will be another nail in the literary coffin. I write this for something to do on the train in the morning, it’s not a dream of mine to be a well-known blogger (which I suppose is a good thing). I’m just happy that there are people out there who read this and leave a comment.

If I can inspire one person to grasp their dream, and make enough money so I could be sitting at home watching the cricket, then it will be all worth it.

In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Singular Sensation.”

If one experience or life change results from you writing your blog, what would you like it to be?

Ah, so you worked out the riddle. You just needed to use dwarfish and the doors to Geek Ergo Sum opened. Or perhaps you just used Google. Either way you are here, on my little corner of the Internet.

  1. I guess some write to be noticed, some write because they are pushed, others I bet want to see how far they can get it. All in all it’s worthy of letting the universe know of one’s talent that no one dreams or knows! 🙂
