Today is Geek Ergo Sum Day, although it could be my week as I’ve had one birthday and a celebration of fatherhood to come, but it is just Geek Ergo Sum Day today. It also sees me surpass the record number of posts in a year.
This seems to call for a Global Holiday, or at least will in years to come when this site is finally recognised by more than a handful of readers as super-awesome. That’s what I keep telling myself at least, an if I’m not recognised for being able to type a few hundred words a day I will make it essential reading when I become the Supreme Ruler of the Earth.
There will be the usual parades in my honour, probably the floats left over from the birthday celebrations in June and November (for like The Queen I should have more than one birthday a year). Not as big and fancy as the twice yearly parade but a more intimate affair, maybe only a hundred or so. There will be at least one marching band per float, although this may require a change in education policy to ensure that there are enough brass band players in the future.
The official food of the GES Anniversary will be stromboli, if you need to know why read here or otherwise gaze upon its majesty and week for you are not currently eating stromboli. Unless of course you are then well done you.
I could go into more detail about the party (the 90′s bands, the big cricket match) but let’s be honest this is all but a wild-eyed fantasy.
The fact that I have manged to continue to write consecutively for so long doesn’t deserve celebrating. There have been ebbs and flows to the posting and the quality has varied wildly. Other than Rock Band this has been one hobby that has endured, and even now the plastic Rickenbacker is collecting dust.
So any celebration of my time on here is going to be muted, I never thought I would last this long. The original idea was that I would use this format to just brain dump to cheer myself up and see what happens. Well Mrs G happened so in one sense there is no need for me to carry on. Even now as Baby G is is rattling the bars on her cot I think it is amazing that I am still writing (or finding the time to).
This will be my little festivus, my summer party to remind myself that the gift is not in receiving, nor making a big fuss about it, it’s in realising that I stuck with something that has made me happy.
Let’s all raise a glass to that.
And get me some stromboli.
In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “Festivus for the Rest of Us.”
You have been named supreme ruler of the universe. Your first order of business is creating and instituting a holiday or festival in your honor. What day of the year is your holiday? What special events will take place? Describe YOU DAY in as great a detail as you can muster: the special foods we’ll consume, the decorations we’ll use…everything.
