The third spirit

A crawling feeling woke Scrooge up, and after checking on WebMD decided that it was either ebola, the effects of stress or a potential infestation of spirits.

The sight of the night’s final ghost led to him eliminating stress.

“What do you have to tell me spirit? What sage words can you offer me?”

The spirit did not reply.

“Why do you not talk spirit, do you bear grim news?”

The spirit did not reply.

Scrooge grasped the spectre by the shoulders and shook him “What vision do you have that you cannot bear to speak?”

Slowly the spirit raised his hands towards his face, and took his earphones out.

“Sorry about that,” he said “I was bored waiting for my turn so was listening to some music. As I must be off soon look over there”.

Scrooge looked, and was confronted by a tombstone engraved with the words ‘Scrooge’s Heart’.

“I am the Ghost of Valentine’s Future and Obvious Analogies, just like the heart you were eating at the beginning of this tale you are slowly devouring your own by shutting it off to love.”

“I wonder how many people remembered that important detail?” wondered Scrooge, thinking how this story has been as intricately plotted as a Dan Brown novel.

“Probably as many as those who have stuck with this story this far” replied the ghost.

“Anyway there you are. Have a good night I’m off”.

Scrooge sat there in contemplation at all he had learnt that day, when at just that moment the cock started to crow…it was Valentines Day morn. He leapt from the bed and flung open the windows as a new man. Looking down at the street he shouted “you there, urchin what day is it today?”

“Why it’s Valentine’s Day, and I’m an anemone although it is easy to confuse us?” it replied.

“Well go fetch me the largest helium balloon you can find, and a teddy which says ‘I wuv you’ when you hug it. I have learnt just what today means and I want the whole world to know.”

“Pray tell what the true meaning of today is?” Scrooge was asked.

“Make sure you give a card and some chocolates, and if don’t do anything on February 14th you are dead.”

God bless us one and Hallmark.

Ah, so you worked out the riddle. You just needed to use dwarfish and the doors to Geek Ergo Sum opened. Or perhaps you just used Google. Either way you are here, on my little corner of the Internet.
